The Town of Nags Head now stretches from Milepost 10 to 22. The area south of Milepost 16.5 known as South Nags Head is primarily residential and backs up to Pea Island Wildlife Refuge, allowing a feeling of being away from it all yet within minutes of the action. The Town of Nags Head has over 30 public beach accesses, some with parking and ten with lifeguard stands. There are several sound-side water access points.
Jockey’s Ridge, the largest living sand dune on the East Coast, is the crowning jewel of Nags Head.
