WH208: Severe Clear

Overall, the house really cannot be beat for the price and location. We are a small group, only 4 of us, and finding a smaller home without an outrageous price point is tough. Severe Clear met all of our needs! We love Whalehead and loved being right across from the beach access even though we tend to go to the 4x4 beach everyday. The neighborhood is perfect for beach walking and people watching! It’s always friendly and lively. We had perfect weather all week to celebrate our daughter’s 19th birthday. We usually travel down in August, but I have to say, June weather and crowds are better. I don’t know where everyone was, but they were not down this way! We arrived on Sunday around 1:00 and had already been in text communication with Village who said they would text when the house was ready. We dropped one car in the driveway and headed to the 4x4 beach. Before 2:00, we had a text that the house was ready. What a great surprise even though we didn’t even get back to the house until after 4:00. Upon check in and unpacking, I noticed some ants in the kitchen and we also had a sink that would not drain. So I called and left a message and received a return phone call right away the next morning and all was taken care of by the time we returned from the beach on Monday! Communication with Village throughout the week was top notch! Love that it is all handled through text messaging!The kitchen is well stocked and labeled. My teenagers LOVED that each cabinet was labeled. The extra ice maker is THE BEST thing ever! Saved us having to go get ice for the cooler every morning! Great addition!! The kitchen and bathrooms need an update. It’s just time. While they are functional, an update would take this house up quite a few notches! And the carpet as well. It’s time for that to go!The deck is wonderful. The additional of a few chairs that sit up higher would be perfect! I like to sit outside and have my coffee and it would be great to be able to see above the deck railings.The rescue squad behind us was a concern and the only issue we had was an EARLY morning wake up by the Nightengale helicopter for a medical emergency. I thought I was dreaming and finally stumbled out of bed (along with the rest of the neighboring homes) to watch the load someone on board and take off. The location, size for a smaller family, the pool, the deck….overall it’s a great rental. A few updates and upgrades and it will be close to perfect. We will definitely rent again!

Our third time to the outer banks. Very satisfied with this home. The pictures make the home seem outdated, but it did not feel that way at all. The home is within a short walk to beach access and an easy walk to all the local stores and restaurants. Very clean and labeled. Had all amenities needed for the week. Pool and hot tub were clean. Good space for our dog. Concerned about the firehouse, but all was quiet until the last day when we experienced an emergency medical helicopter transport. Very exciting. Wonderful views all around the house with plenty of dining seating inside and outside for a group of people.

The house is great with an amazing location.. a few minor things such as hot water in the shower staying hot for multiple showers at the end of the day and this being our 3rd year in the house the living room furniture is getting worse and worse. A nice sectional and some recliners would be perfect for nights when the family watches a movie. We obviously love the house and plan to return again next year, hoping for some new living room furniture by then.

We loved Severe Clear. The house was clean and had everything we needed. This was our first trip to the Outer Banks and will be back. We will also recommend Severe Clear to our friends and family

Severe Clear was a very nice home to stay in with my family of 5 and one fur baby. We loved the close proximity to the beach entrance! The pool and hot tub were very clean and a very nice amenity. Our family ate EVERY single meal in the "wind tunnel" as we called it, the picnic table outside...perfect breeze with shade! Truly an asset to this house! The main living area is on the second floor, not the upper floor so the pictures of the ocean are somewhat misleading as they are from the bedroom upstairs. But we truly enjoyed our stay, the layout was open and sunny. The dog would move around the main area to follow the warmth of the sun! And we loved the gates on the outdoor stairs to minimize any risk of her heading down without us! Genius! Thank you for a great stay!

This is the third time weve stayed at Severe Clear. Weve stayed at other properties in OBX but this one is our favorite. It is the perfect size and location for my husband and me and our 2 dogs. More than enough room for 2 families. Beautiful ocean views, steps to the beach, a large yard and pool and walking distance to shops and restaurants. The house is well maintained and nicely laid out. Our favorite room is the loft-ideal for reading or playing games. My only recommendation would be to invest in higher chairs for the top deck. You cant see the ocean when sitting in the adirondacks!

The pool and the hot tub were well maintained. It seems someone was there every day checking chemicals and cleaning. Both are very nice. The house is very close to the ocean. The house layout is very nice. The deck structure/arrangement is well thought out and nicely furnished. When we arrived we found dirty towels in drawers in bathroom, clothes left under beds and wedged between mattresses and bed frame. The air conditioning is marginal even when blinds are kept closed thru the day. There is limited hot water enabling only one shower every hour. The gas grill did not have have any gas in the cylinder. The strengths of this house is its location to the ocean and shopping and the house layout. layoutjhouseong parts of this house

We have stayed at Severe Clear several years now - missing last year - and have found it to be in a great location and great for our family. The kids love the puzzles, games, etc. upstairs and the yard to play soccer and baseball (one that has a yard). Thank you for treating the pool also, because our grands are from VT and they were in everyday - even not heated. It is a good family vacation home.

We had a fabulous vacation with our home base at Severe Clear. We would definitely consider staying here again as the location and layout is spectacular and any little concerns were immediately addressed. Keep an eye out for us booking next year! Thank you :)

We had an absolutely wonderful week at the beach in Severe Clear. This was our 31st year of coming to the Outer Banks. We stayed in Coquille from 1990 until we begin staying in Severe Clear in 2007. Our Scottish relatives stayed with us that year and loved it! We would have loved to continue renting Severe Clear but unfortunately to reserve the house for next year a $1,000 deposit is required on the day you leave. We are a family on a budget and just dont have the funds available the very day we leave from a vacation. I am sorry Village Realty has chosen this method for next year reservations. I would like the owner to know we had the most memorable family vacations at your lovely home and thank you sincerely. The Cecils
