Downtown Manteo is within walking distance, so be sure to set aside a day or two to explore this hidden gem of the Outer Banks. You'll find cobblestone streets and Jacobean architecture representative of the town's Elizabethan origins. Walk to the Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse for a trip back in time, or cross the bridge over to Roanoke Island Festival Park where you'll find The Pavilion Outdoor Theatre, a live-entertainment venue with lawn-style amphitheater seating that hosts concerts and festivals throughout the year. When you're ready to hit the beach, you'll be just a quick ten-minute drive over the bridge to the Nags Head public accesses with free parking.
