The Ultimate Guide to Planning A Spring OBX Vacation
Have you ever thought about vacationing in the Outer Banks during the spring? We all know that the summer in the Outer Banks is absolutely magical and has been a favorite summer destination for years, but we want to let you in on a little secret: the springtime is just as fun. Here’s why:
There is always something fun to experience! From live music at your favorite restaurant to marathons to yoga and more, there is always a fun event to attend on the Outer Banks. The springtime is no exception! Check out our Facebook page, we are always adding fun events for our guests to discover. Some of our favorite events to attend are the St. Patrick’s Day Parade (March 15th), BBQ & Wings Showdown (March 28th), Fly into Spring & Easter Eggstravaganza (April 10th – 11th), ESA Mid-Atlantic Regional Surfing Championship (May 1st – 3rd ) & the Mustang Spring Jam (May 16th – 17th).
You’ll practically have the beach to yourself! Springtime can produce some nice, beach-worthy weather. Because there are fewer people in the area this time of year, you’ll be able to snag the best beach spot to throw down your blanket or chair & enjoy the whole day at the beach with ease. That also means there will be fewer people searching the shore for sea glass! I’ve found some of my best pieces of sea glass (pictured above) in March and April down at the Conch Street beach access in Nags Head. After a day at the beach, you’ll be able to enjoy all your other favorite OBX spots without all the hustle and bustle of the summertime rush. This includes our local shops, piers and lighthouses.
Your favorite restaurant is probably open! Although some restaurants briefly shut down during the winter, they all emerge from their hibernation in the spring, to serve you fresh and amazing food. View a complete list of Outer Banks restaurants and their seasonal opening date here.
Get more BANG for your buck! Snag the perfect Outer Banks vacation rental at a really great value. This time of year, prices are cheaper than they would be during the summer. Plus, our pools open April 3, so you’ll be able to reserve that oceanfront vacation rental with a pool at a cheaper price than during a prime week in July or August.
You don’t have to stay for a week! Can’t get to the Outer Banks for a full week in the spring? We have you covered. We have a number of homes that offer a short stay option, which allows you to book a stay in select homes for as little as 3 nights, if booked within 2 weeks of your arrival date. Explore our short stay options here.
While we never want to take away from the beautiful summers here on the Outer Banks, we thought it would be important to share just how special the springtime can be.
