Saturday

Saturday

Saturday, November 21, was sunny and mild and a good day to run some pre-Thanksgiving errands. For some strange reason, I was up and awake by 7 am on my day off…so we got an early start. The first stop was Owen’s Restaurant, where I paid for and picked up a $100 gift certificate. This will be one of the many wonderful items we will have on our Village Realty Christmas Tree for the Annual Outer Banks Festival of Trees. More on that on our Facebook page as we get closer to the event.

Next, we went to Wanchese, and to O’Neals Sea Harvest, on Harbor Road. We had to order some oysters, crab, shrimp and scallops for Thanksgiving. And then we go to have lunch. It does not get any fresher. Fried oysters, fried okra and coleslaw. I must also mention that the sweet tea was delicious. Very clean place, friendly service and good, good food.

If you have not ever been to Wanchese, try to set aside some time during your next visit. Small and charming, this little fishing village was named after the last known ruler of the Roanoke Native American tribe. Small it is, with a total area of 5.5 square miles. Wanchese is known for fishing, fishermen and a wonderful sense of community, pride and family. I do not have any statistics but I can say with confidence that most of the people who live there are year-round residents. This is the heart of the Outer Banks fishing community and you will find friendly and hard working people.

Next stop was Wanchese Trawl and Supply to pick up some sweatshirts for Christmas gifts. We talked with Faron for a while, great man and very funny.

Now on the way back to the beach, headed for a new shop, Wild About NatureOBX, to pick up some house warming gifts and Christmas presents. I met Ticia (owner) and looked around a bit. Small shop with lots of personality and some unique items. I will be going back. Located in the Seagate North Shopping Center in Kill Devil Hills, NC. Website

The Holistic Pet Shop, also in Seagate North Shopping Center, was on our list too. Cat treats but I also found some great candles…great scent and not overpowering. Bought those too. Facebook page

Next stop was another delicious one!  Went to Zen Pops in Kitty Hawk.  Facebook Page. Frozen treats with healthy, natural ingredients. Organic, vegan treats and more…using in-season fruits. I had to eat my coconut and lime Zen Pop on the way home. And I have three more in the freezer…hidden. In the same shop you will find Sweater Box Confections. Home baked goodies like cheese pennies, lemon lavender cookies, key lime macaroons, and coconut macaroons dipped in chocolate (very decadent). www.SweaterBoxConfections.com.

Back home, where oldest grandson discovered his new sweatshirt that was supposed to be for Christmas and promptly put it on.

Home. Nice day. We try to give you places to go that you may not be aware of, hoping you will like them as much as we do.

Until Next Time, I am
