Weddings on the Outer Banks

Weddings on the Outer Banks

Our area is becoming increasingly popular as the place to have a wedding. Good reasons why; the beach, less expensive, great caterers, wonderful venues, musicians, DJs, location. And, for those who can and want to…a place to extend the celebration with a vacation on the OBX.

Many people get married right on the beach, and that is beautiful. No need for flowers or decorations, the ocean is right there. You will need a back-up plan in case of bad weather…but let’s not talk about that.
I have attended a wedding at the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island (aka Manteo) and it was beautiful.  The couple got married outside, overlooking the Roanoke Sound and then we all went inside and partied in the aquarium!  It is different at night and we could walk around and look at the exhibits as much as we wanted. It was catered and there was a DJ too…a lot of fun.

Then we have couples who want to get married in a house on the beach or on the sound front (and yes, we do have homes that allow this).  They get married, party, and then stay right there for the honeymoon.

However, don’t forget about The Whalehead Club, Jennette’s Pier, First Colony Inn Bed and Breakfast, Nags Head Golf Links, or the Elizabethan Gardens…just to name a few. All unique and all with very helpful staffs.

There are many venues here if you want a more formal setting…from the Corolla Chapel to a place in Manteo.  A good place to start your list if you are getting married here is on the Outer Banks Wedding Association website. And, if you just got engaged or are just starting to think about your wedding here, the Outer Banks Wedding Weekend Expo is coming up in January.  January 18 and 19 to be exact. You do need tickets ($20 each) and this is a very popular event so if you are interested I suggest you buy tickets ASAP.

From what I have heard it is also much less expensive holding a wedding here than in many other places on the East Coast or inland. You will find helpful locals who really are happy to have you here!
