Best Burger Joints on The Outer Banks
Even in a place where you can eat the best seafood in the world there are times when you just want a good cheeseburger. We took a very unscientific poll among our Facebook Followers (www.Facebook.com/obxvacations) and asked them what their favorite Burger place on the Outer Banks was. And they proceeded to tell us. Art's Place in Kitty Hawk was mentioned by Debbie G, Nancy T and seveal others. "Big, thick and juicy patties and hand cut fries. Arts is what you might call a hole in the wall but there is great service and just plain old good food. Definetely popular with the locals. Art's is located on the Beach Road in Kitty Hawk. Tell them the Village Realty People sent you. I have not eaten at Art's lately so will have to check it out.
Mulligans was the favorite of Harold, Ken, Mary and Scott...and a few others. I do eat here about once a month, for lunch. They have great hamburgers but they also serve veggie burgers, turkey burgers and bison burgers which my co-workers likes. Good and friendly service and some good lunch specials every day. Hand cut fries...delicious! They are not far from the Nags Head office so the web geeks (me included) head there as often as we can get away. Gus is the owner and we always hook him up with one of our newest t-shirts. www.mulligansobx.com. Located near Milepost 13 in Nags Head, this Outer Banks restaurant features live music nightly on the deck overlooking Jockey's Ridge and the ocean.
Kill Devil's in ...you guessed it..Kill Devil Hills. This is a drive in...but there are picnic tables outside. On the bypass around Milepost 8. Great custard too! Kids love this place and we had quite a few of our Facebook Followers choose this place as their favorite for a burger. They also feature hand cut fries. www.killdevilsfrozencustard.com/about-the-food.htm
Red Drum is also in Kill Devil Hills (of course) and they have a variety of burgers to choose from including a blue cheese burger, mushroom and bacon and swiss burger and the list goes on. Very good beer selection too.
Five Guys Burgers and Fries was the choice of at least five people. Fresh, good quality, lots of fries! Very simple menu...hamburgers, hot dogs, fries. Five Guys is located near Milepost 9 in KDH...off the bypass. You can call ahead and place your order if you like.
Big Al's in Manteo was also highly recommended. www.BigAlsOBX.com. The full name is Big Al's Soda Fountain and Grill and it is reminiscent of a 50's style diner. There are over 10,000 pieces of Coca-Cola memorabilia here. Think thick, creamy milkshakes and blue plate specials!
In Corolla the nod went to First Light and to Uncle Ikes. Mariann says her husband is a "burger expert" and claims the burger at Uncle Ikes was the best he ever tasted. During the summer Ikes is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They offer family style catering and will deliver. So, if you are in a big house with lots of people and you know you will never find a restaurant that can seat all of you ...here is an option. Uncle Ikes Sandbar and Grill is located in the Corolla Light Town Center across from the Currituck Lighthouse.
