The beach road has seen must change in its lifetime, with some goodbyes as well as hellos to new faces in small business. Two stand out businesses that have debuted in the past few years are Surfin' Spoon Frozen Yogurt Bar and Seagreen Gallery, both in Nags Head. The local community and visitors alike have welcomed these two with open arms since their beginnings. Seagreen Gallery opened in 2011 and Surfin' Spoon in 2012, both at milepost 10.5. Both the owners of Seagreen Gallery and Surfin' Spoon decided to reuse and revive older Nags Head buildings instead of destructing and building new, what great examples of recycling!
As a local, I can guarantee you that Surfin' Spoon will be the best frozen yogurt you can find on the beach, they even offer a variety of mouth watering sorbets for our dairy-free friends. The topping bar is always diverse and super fresh, sometimes with hand-picked strawberries from across the bridge. If you've been coming to the Outer Banks long enough, you may recognize Seagreen Gallery's space as the old Musicana and before that, Gray's department store. Seagreen Gallery has become anothe favorite of mine for gifts and decorations you won't find anywhere else. Gallery owners have most certainly mastered "the fine art of reuse" in their products, my favorites being the turntable wall clocks and assortment of beach glass and coral jewelry.
To top it all off, the two are neighbors so if you're driving through Nags Head go grab some froyo and checkout the unique and recycled finds at the gallery right next door!
