HIRO14: The Pickled Mermaid

The Pickled Mermaid was by far the best vacation rental we've ever stayed in! The house was absolutely amazing, and I have to mention the beds they were a 10/10. Everyone in our family slept wonderfully every single night. The layout of the house was perfect, with beautiful ocean views and the shortest walk to the beach. This was our family's first trip to the Outer Banks, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The beach was quiet and peaceful, and it often felt like we had it all to ourselves. The house didn't fall short on anything. It was fully stocked with everything we needed and more. We even visited Alex's Seafood Market for fresh seafood, and I was able to steam our shrimp because the house had a steam pot available! When we booked this house, there were no reviews, which made me a little nervous because I usually never book a place without reviews. But we decided to take a chance, and we are so happy we did. This was by far the best vacation we've had in years, and we can't wait to come back to The Pickled Mermaid

It was the first time we had several couples together for some beach time! The location was super…close to beach and pier but still quiet. The house was wonderful - spaces to gather or to find chill solo. Kitchen was well stocked with plenty of dishes and utensils.
Everyone enjoyed the time away. Village Realty was always responsive to my questions. I would not change a thing.

The pickled mermaid was better than I I imagined. The pictures, altho great do not do the views of the beach justice. It was well worth the price. The host was proactive and gave great instructions on the place. Our family had a great experience. Rodanthe is quite beach which is what we were looking for, but if you wanted to go experience other places its location is nicely situated for short drive to the other islands and beaches. Excellent location, ample space, overall clean and tidy. Fairly well stocked. Beds were comfortable, love the three kings and three bathrooms! A little mixup on the phone directions app finding the place but a different app fixed the issue. Would absolutely stay again.

Wonderful place to stay! We had 2 families with young children stay at this home and it was plenty of room! So close to the beach, we were back and forth multiple times a day. Clean home, well stocked kitchen, lots of games to play. The view is the selling point for sure! Watching the waves come in while drinking some coffee was the top of our list! A+ highly recommend the Pickled mermaid.

We really enjoyed staying at the Pickled Mermaid. There were definitely some outdated things such as the bathrooms downstairs, the kitchen cabinets and some of the furniture. The furniture could use better cleaning as when we lifted up the cushions, there were piles of dog hair under them. The house could definitely use some new kitchen utensils, pits, pans, and blenders. Other than that, if we had a question or issue, Village Realty was on top of it and sent someone over right away. I loved the layout of the house and able to see the ocean from the windows or the wrap around deck. I could definitely see us staying here again.

​"We had an absolutely perfect stay at VRL's place in Rodanthe! 🫡The location is exactly what you want for an Outer Banks getaway—peaceful, beautiful, and just steps away from the beach. The house was spotless, beautifully decorated, and had all the amenities we needed for a comfortable stay. We especially loved drinking our morning coffee on the deck while listening to the waves /surfing all to myself 💯/watching the sunset over the Sound. VRL was incredibly responsive and provided great local recommendations. If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing beach retreat, this is the place. We can’t wait to come back!"
