Big Kahuna is a semi-oceanfront home in Hatteras Colony just steps away from the pristine beaches of Avon. An open-concept floorplan and abundant natural light make this cozy cottage feel bright and airy. Updates including hardwood floors and stainless steel appliances provide a fresh look while maintaining the home's coastal charm. The living area leads out to a sun deck where you can soak up the rays while enjoying the salty ocean breeze. Three bedrooms, including a king ensuite, make Big Kahuna the perfect choice for two couples or small families. A recently added rec room downstairs includes a sleeper sofa and half bath. Choose between foosball or try your hand at darts. There's even a mini fridge and ice maker for refilling your beverage without having to go upstairs. Outside, a fabulous entertaining space on the ground level includes thoughtful additions such as a tiki bar, fire pit, grilling area and fish cleaning table.

When it's time to hit the beach, use the neighborhood walkway right across the street for quick and easy access to the sparkling Atlantic. Big Kahuna is located on the northern end of Avon, just past the 11-mile stretch of undeveloped National Seashore that separates it from Salvo. A four-minute drive south will take you to the heart of town, where you'll find the Avon Fishing Pier along with a variety of locally owned boutiques, surf shops, and dining options.

We had an unforgettable stay at this beach house! The house was spotless and beautifully decorated. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook our family meals. We loved the deck with its cozy furniture, perfect for a morning coffee or sunset wine. Location wise you can’t beat it just steps away from the path that takes you to the beach. We truly didn’t want to leave and we’re already thinking about booking again next year. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful beach getaway.

I had a truly wonderful stay at this beautiful house in Avon, Outer Banks! The location couldn’t have been more ideal—just a short and easy walk to the beach, which made our days feel relaxed and carefree. It was so nice to be able to pop back to the house without needing to get in the car, especially after a long day in the sun. The house itself was spotless, fully equipped with everything we needed, and clearly maintained with care. From the well-stocked kitchen to the comfortable living spaces and thoughtful extras, it really felt like a home away from home. The owners went above and beyond to make our stay special—communication was excellent, and they clearly put a lot of effort into ensuring guests have the best experience. We also loved how close the house was to local restaurants, coffee shops, and stores. Everything we needed was within a few minutes’ drive—or even a pleasant walk. Whether we were grabbing a morning coffee, picking up fresh seafood, or heading out for dinner, it was all incredibly convenient. The area is peaceful and laid-back, perfect for a relaxing beach vacation. I honestly can’t think of anything that was missing—this place checked all the boxes and more. Highly recommend for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy the best of the Outer Banks!

We stayed at the Big Kahoona at the end of May. We were at the beach house with a larger group of friends in our early twenties, and it was perfect for what we needed. The space was super welcoming and open, with plenty of room to hang out and relax. We really appreciated the beach chairs and mats provided, they made our beach days so much easier. The house is just a short walk from the beach, which was a huge plus. We also made great use of the outdoor grill, which made cooking quick and easy for the whole group. The bonfire setup was another highlight because we ended our nights around the fire making s’mores and just enjoying the vibe. There were also games available in the house, which made for some fun downtime when we weren’t at the beach. Overall, the house was a great spot for a group getaway. It was comfortable, well stocked, and close to everything including local coffee shops which were a plus! Would definitely stay again.
