DU503: A Captain's Tale

We stayed 3 nights at A Captains Tale cottage in October. We loved it so much We booked another 4 nights in November. I am sure we'll book it again in October 2026. We love our getaways to Duck in the off season!

We really enjoyed our stay at this beach cottage. The kitchen was impressively well equipped — it had everything we could possibly need, and all the appliances were high quality (including the gas bbq). The screened-in porch was a great spot to relax, and the location was ideal: a quiet road for peace and privacy, but just a short walk to the shops in Duck and an even shorter walk to a quiet beach access. It’s a comfortable, thoughtfully set-up place that made for an enjoyable, relaxing stay.

Perfect for a small group. Worked great for the wife and I. Easily walkable to the beach. Duck restaurants nearby. Well stocked kitchen. Nice BBQ grill. Recently renovated and very clean. Giant big screen TV in the living room was a plus. Probably will stay again!

Just Perfect! This house was spotless, organized, had a perfect kitchen with every single item clearly marked and NOTHING was missed. The home was so comfortable in every way. We were on the screened porch every morning and evening enjoying the ocean breeze. Outside shower was so big and nice (did I mention CLEAN). Loved the second fridge in the laundry room - it came in handy. Finally, short walk to beach, and walk to EVERYTHING Duck has to offer. A real gem this house. Thank you so much!

Rental home had everything one would need for a vacation. Had so many amenities that we did not need to bring some stuff(beach cart, umbrella, beach chairs, toys). Home was well equipped from top to bottom. Perfect location from beach and Duck shops on bay side. If it needed anything at all, I would say a pool. Other than that, we loved it and will be back!!

We loved our stay at Captain’s Tail! It was close to the beach and an easy walk into town. The kitchen was well stocked, the renovations were well done and the outdoor shower was one of the cleanest and nicest I’ve seen in Duck!! The home was cozy and we enjoyed our week there. We had a bad rental experience last year so we were thrilled to see how nice 132 Cook Drive was! Everything was freshly painted, the interior was very nice, the house had a lot to offer, and it was super close to the beach and duck village. We will definitely rent this property again!

A Captain’s Tale was a fantastic place to stay for our family - top to bottom. The property looked like the photos and was even better. Every detail of the house seemed so well planned and was only minutes from either the beach or grabbing ice cream in town! Highly recommend!

Our first stay in Duck was wonderful. This house was very clean, has a well-stocked kitchen, and is tastefully updated. We enjoyed eating breakfast out on the screened in porch listening to the ocean waves. The master bedroom mattress was very comfortable as well. We will definitely consider this house again if we come back to Duck.

The house was adorable and spotless. The furniture was new and very comfortable. We loved the screened porch and the beds were comfortable. Everything we needed was provided for the kitchen and to go to the beach. It was the perfect house for our family of 4.

One thing worth mentioning is very limited supplies. You will need to bring your own soap, shampoo, dishwashing detergent, laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, salt, pepper, condiments etc.

This house was perfect for my family of four and exceeded my expectations! The entire rental process, check in and check out went smoothly. The rental company responded promptly when contacted. The house was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen had everything you needed and more to prepare meals! The location is perfect, a short walk into town and an even shorter walk to the beach. The provided beach chairs, umbrella and wagon was a nice addition to not have to bring from home. Can't wait to come back next year!

With a two year old, this property was a great walking distance for us to the beach. The home was clean and the kids loved it. Nice selection of chairs, wagon, and beach toys.

We loved our stay at this property in Duck. The house is a short walk to the beach. The house was very clean and had all the appliances we needed. It also had some beach chairs, umbrella, and even a few boogie boards you can use. We brought our own beach stuff, but its there if needed. There is also a beach wagon in the laundry room to help you cary your stuff to the beach. We really enjoyed having coffee on the screened in porch in the mornings. The house is located by many restaurants that are a short drive away. We recommend Aqua, Sunset Bar and Grill and Duck Donuts. My family and I all agreed we would definitely stay here again.

This home was such a wonderful surprise! It was recently renovated and everything was simply beautiful! The design, the space, the kitchen, screened porch, the beds...everything was just perfect and done so thoughtfully for guests. I cannot wait to stay again next year- thank you for doing everything just right!
