Christmas on the North End

On December 1st and 2nd, Island Farm will host “Christmas on the North End,” an event focused on historic holiday traditions in the early days on the Outer Banks. Christmas on the North End is Island Farm’s last event of the year and commemorates the holiday season with warmth and celebration.

During the event, visitors will be shown how Roanoke Island families celebrated the Christmas holiday in the 1850s. The homeplace and surrounding outbuildings will be decorated in greenery and lit by candlelight, while Farm interpreters demonstrate mid-19th century traditions of food, celebration, and holiday craft. Guests will be able to visit with St. Nicholas, and enjoy fresh cider, sugar cookies, a bonfire, and musket firing! Additional activities will include candle making, ornament crafting, and grapevine wreath making.

Admission for the event is $10 for those aged 4 and older; admission for children 0-3 is free. Island Farm is located at 1140 N on Highway 64, just north of Manteo on Roanoke Island.

Island Farm is owned and operated by Outer Banks Conservationists, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1980 to protect natural, cultural, and historic resources along North Carolina’s Outer Banks through education and conservation of a sense of place.
