Outer Banks 4th of July Celebrations
Every summer, there are certain weeks that guests and locals look forward to each year. The week of July 4th and Independence Day celebrations are at the top of that list! From Corolla to Nags Head, there is no shortage of celebrations. After reading this blog, we think you'll wish you could be in two locations at once!
Listed below is all the info we can find on the planned local 4th of July celebrations. At the time of publishing, some towns had not confirmed their celebrations. When information becomes available, we will update this blog. So if you're coming to visit for this particular week, keep this blog bookmarked. It's the perfect planning companion for your vacation.
If you stay in Corolla over the Independence Day holiday, you are in for a treat! Head to the Historic Corolla Park for a spectacular fireworks show. The fun starts at 5:00 pm on July 4th with family activities, live music, food trucks, etc. Then, around dusk, the sky lights up with a fireworks show that the whole family will love! This event is free and open to the public. There is free parking available in the park. The parking lot will open at 3:00 pm for parking and will fill up fast. We recommend getting there early! Visit the Currituck website for more information on the event.
The 4th of July Parade is back this year in Duck! It begins at 9:00 am, starts on Scarborough Lane headed toward the ocean, and loops back around on Christopher Drive. The town recommends arriving early for the best view. After the parade, the Community Celebration is held at Duck Town Park. Enjoy live music, cold refreshments, and the awarding of parade trophies.
Kill Devil Hills:
The Avalon Pier (MP 6) has a popular fireworks display every year. Fireworks usually start around dusk and go through the evening. The beach around Avalon Pier will be busy, and parking will be hard to find. To have the best experience, we recommend getting to the beach sometime during the morning hours and just camping out all day. Have someone from your group drop you off at the pier; they can go back and park at your vacation rental and ride a bike back to the pier. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner all on the beach. What better way to celebrate?
The Town of Nags Head is excited to present its Fireworks Spectacular on July 4th! Enjoy a beautiful firework display over the Atlantic Ocean at milepost 11.5. It'll be something the whole family will remember for years to come! The Nags Head police department usually directs traffic near the event. We recommend parking west of the Beach Bypass, so you don't have to cross any major highways. Bring your best beach gear and get there early! Spend a beautiful day on the beach celebrating our beautiful country and end it with an impressive fireworks show.
The town of Nags Head recommends the following public beach accesses for fireworks viewing:
South of Nags Head Fishing Pier: Curlew Stree, Hollowell Street, and Conch Street
North of Nags Head Fishing Pier: Bladen Street, Bittern Street, Bonnett Street, Blackman Street
Jockey's Ridge State Park is another option for viewing the fireworks. The park will be open late on July 4th to accommodate visitors.
The downtown Manteo 4th of July celebration is one to experience at least once in your life! The opening ceremony will take place at 3:00 pm in front of the Dare County Arts Council building. The streets are full of families decked out and celebrating in their patriotic gear. There is plenty to keep the kids entertained: Independence Day trivia, decorated bike contest, apple pie contest, and more! The Independence Day Concert is free and takes place at Roanoke Island Festival Park. Gates open at 4:30 and the show kicks off at 5:15 pm. The show opens up with The Deloreans, which is an 80's cover band. Afterward, beginning at 7:45 pm the 82nd Airborne Band & Chorus will take the stage. They present a star-spangled salute to our country featuring patriotic music. The concert will conclude with fireworks launched over the Roanoke Sound. We recommend getting there early. The best fireworks viewing spots are usually the downtown docks or over at the Roanoke Island Festival Park.
