Late Spring on The Outer Banks
The Outer Banks are coming alive again!
Here we are, only a few days into May, and the beach is starting to "buzz" again. You can feel it everywhere you go. No longer is a left turn a sure bet on the bypass. The commute to work is taking an extra few minutes. There are actually people in swimwear on the beaches... what a glorious time indeed!
The transition is exciting. For us locals, we are just crossing over-the-hump of a cold season that stretches from late fall through March... and the prospect of warmer temperatures and getting out and about is what we've all been waiting for. For me, personally, the idea that the beach is filling up with visitors is also exciting.
For those of you who don't know, I was born and raised a vacationer to the Outer Banks. Since moving here, I've noticed (while it's still a glorious habitat in the summer) there is never such a truly concentrated period of OBX excitement compared to when you take a single, special trip here. So I find great enjoyment when seeing all the smiling faces... stuffed three across in the backseat of the family hauler. I get to share in some of the fun and excitement that our visitors are having.. and the start of the busy season kicks this into gear.
The late spring is really a wonderful time for a family vacation to The Outer Banks. The warm weather starts to fully set in, and I swear the air is a bit saltier than summertime. The ocean starts to warm to the point where swimming and fishing pick up, and the events calendar is chock-full of many fun happenings that would be hard to fit in the summer schedule due to crowd size, etc. (check out the OBX Brewfest, it's #1 on my radar for spring events).
If you're ready for a getaway but not yet booked, take a look at our rental specials page for some hot deals on remaining spring weeks. It is an exciting time on the Outer Banks... and we'd hate for you to miss out on the fun! Thanks for reading - here's looking forward to many more OBX blogs for your enjoyment to come.
