More Insider Info from the Outer Banks Locals
Last night, after I got home, I started thinking about yesterdays post and realized that I had left out some great places to eat in Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head and Kitty Hawk...so I am going to fix that right now. AND, add some really unique shops where you can find locally made artwork, jewelry and more.
Josephine's Sicilian Kitchen in Kitty Hawk. This is an authentic Italian restaurant, the owner, Josephine Caggesse, is from Sicily and her passion is cooking. The menu changes weekly and you will not be disappointed. Located at 3701 North Croatan Highway, Kitty Hawk, 27949. www.OBXItalianRestaurant.com
Do you remember Quagmires? It was on the oceanfront in Kill Devil Hills, around Milepost 8/9. Well, that place is gone but John Kirchmeir, the owner, has just taken over Bonzer Shack in Kill Devil Hills! Very casual, definitely OBX Style...laid back and friendly. Kid friendly. Try the fried green tomatoes and the Bonzer Shrimp. Located on the Beach Road at 1200 South Virginia Dare Trail.
Sweater Box Confections. Oh my, I just found this place recently. Heavenly. “Baking great stuff so you don’t have to." Located at Milepost 4.5 on the Big Road, inside with Zen Pops (which I will tell you about in just a minute!). SweaterBoxConfections.com. Lavendar cookies, cheese pennies, key lime macaroons and more. I am hungry now. If you would like to order by telephone, please call: 252.207.9283
Zen Pops. Natural and organic gourmet frozen fruit pops. Handmade right here. Zen Pops is dedicated to providing healthier treats for children of all ages, supporting our local community with regular donations to local charities and non-profits, and being a role model for green business practices. Facebook page. You will find them at Milepost 4.5 on the Big Road in Kitty Hawk. 252.573.0306
Now, for some shopping. I absolutely love KDH Cooperative Gallery in KDH. Artist owned and operated and fulll of wonderful things for you or a friend. Paintings, pottery, ceramics, jewelry, metalwork and so much more. Seriously, please don't buy "take home" gifts that were made in China. We ask you to shop locally and buy locally made products. The many artists on the Outer Banks will thank you. Located at 502 South Croatan Highway in KDH.
Another one of my very favorite places is seagreen gallery on the Beach Road in Nags Head, Milepost 10.5. Family owned and operated. They are in the former Grays Department Store (you long time visitors will know what I am talking about). Recycle, reuse and reinvent is their mantra. Fun place to shop!
I am sure I will remember other places so then I will just write another blog.
Until Next Time,
