In honor of the 434th birthday of the first English child born in the new world on August 18 1587, regular admission to The Elizabethan Gardens is reduced. Special celebratory general admission: $4.29 plus tax (youth and children are free) all day. For more information, call 252-473-3234.

Dare-inspired activities for August 18. The following events are scheduled in and around The Gardens for August 18:

  • 9am Virginia Dare Birthday Plant Clearance, 30% off Plant Sale, 9:00am-1:00pm. 10% Virginia Dare Statue.
  • 10am Discovering Mint Program in Odom Hall
  • 11am Storytime in Odom Hall
  • 12pm-1pm A Southern Picnic Lunch of fried chicken, $9 per person (includes drink and dessert)

Southern Picnic Lunch Details:

  • Tickets available to the first 150 guests.
  • The tentative menu includes: Fried Chicken, Potato Salad, Baked Beans, Green Beans, Watermelons, Assorted Breads, Assorted Desserts, Water, Tea and Pepsi Products. Note: We are unable to fulfill special dietary needs beyond these items.
  • 1pm Ice Cream and Cake in the Queen’s Rose Garden
