On May 31, 1975, after two years of hard work by Carolista Baum and the People to Preserve Jockey's Ridge, the tallest natural sand dune on the East Coast became a State Park. Join us in celebrating this important milestone on Sunday, May 31st at the Visitors' Center from 12:00 to 3:00 pm.
There will be live music by Mojo Collins, free hotdogs and Rita's Ice, a children's sand art class, a video of the actual 1975 Designation ceremony, and sales of a limited edition t-shirt to commemorate the event!
The children's sand art will be displayed in an exhibit the following Friday during the First Friday street festival (June 5th) at the Dare County Arts Council's Gallery at the Downtown Manteo Waterfront. Also included in the exhibit will be Jockey's Ridge photography by Tony Britton and Julie Walter as well as paintings by Mary Morris.
