Outer Banks' Lost Colony Featured on History Channel TV Episode
If you're like me, you can't pass on the opportunity to see ANYTHING related to the Outer Banks on television. From "Jeopardy!" answers to full-fledged documentaries, there's something exciting about the OBX getting the national spotlight on TV.
This October, the Lost Colony of Roanoke was the feature of an episode of In Seach Of on the History Channel!
Synopsis from History.com
"The Lost Colony of Roanoke is one of the greatest mysteries in the history of America. 400 years ago, 117 English colonists vanished from their new settlement without a trace. Was the colony attacked? Did they all relocate, only to meet their end somewhere else? Or… did some of them manage to survive? We hunt for clues where the colony once stood, then conduct brand-new DNA testing, to determine once and for all if there were any survivors."
My Review (mild spoilers)
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the episode. It was a fun theoretical journey of what might have happened to the colonists and included some pretty interesting "evidence." Host Zachary Quinto is a recognizable actor, a great host, and a native of Pittsburgh, PA. What's not to like? The B-roll footage of the area was also fun to see... you never know what's going to capture the interest of videographers! I will admit that we didn't finish the episode without debate.
As people deeply connected with the Outer Banks and followers of the Lost Colony mystery, there were a few parts of the show that had us scratching our heads. One of the pieces of evidence that the colony's theorized movement hinged upon was discovered in the sound, which most people know could have washed and settled from quite a distance away in the course of 400+ years. The other peculiar part was evidence recovered from a dig site, found during filming in a pile of shells/sediment which had been handled previously.
Overall, it was intriguing and I highly recommend any Outer Banks fan to watch it! History episodes are available on-demand and may also be viewed online.
