Good Places on the Outer Banks

I am sure I will miss something because there is a lot going on here in preparation for the 2015 season. First of all, THANK YOU to everyone who is planning on visiting our little bit of paradise this summer. We appreciate it. If you have already been this year, thank you  too and please come back. I have been trying to keep track of some new attractions and restaurants, art shows, cultural events and things to do so we can share with you. So here we go:

Beer lovers will be happy. The first ever OBX Brewfest happens on May 31 at the Outer Banks Event Site in Nags Head. 80+ styles of craft beers for sampling, live music, games for grown-ups, workshops and even a soda garden! Some local restaurants will be there serving food. Sounds fun. Tickets are on sale now at $40 each. Buy Tickets.

Waveriders Coffee and Deli has moved...still in Nags Head but they are now in the Pirates Quay Shops at Milepost 11 1/4 on the by-pass. Bigger building and they have decorated it well. They serve great coffees, iced or hot, and have a wonderful selction of baked goods including sugar free options!  They also now serve beer and wine.

So since Waveriders moved, what is in that space now? Glad you asked. It's All Gravy is an Italian Market. Eat in or take out. A little taste of Italy, some South Philly and some OBX all mixed together. I have not been yet but hear good things. The address is 6705 South Croatan Highway. Here is the website:  www.ItsAllGravyOBX.com

So far this year we have two adorable foals born into the Corolla Wild Horses herd. Both are girls; Rosa and Chabella. Cute, cute, cute. Keep in mind that the best way to see the horses is by taking a tour. The photo is courtesy of the nice people from Corolla Beach Music, posted on their Facebook page. Give them a like, see lots more wonderful photos.

Western Sizzlin' is gone and in its place is Rooster's Southern Kitchen, which will "...bring you southern delights prepared daily by our house chef Ray Fiorello."  Located at Milepost 8 3/4 in Kill Devil Hills. Almost ready to open as I write this. Menu sounds amazing and they have done a great job of getting the word out. Here are some menu items:

Hand cut Idaho potatoes, truffle infused oil, parmesan cheese, cracked black pepper

Crisp pickle planks, Cackalacky BBQ ranch

Grilled chicken breast, Edwards country ham, smoked jalapeño pimento cheese, lettuce, tomato

Crispy boneless chicken thighs, sweet potato waffle, maple bourbon Dijon sauce

Yes, yes and yes. I like them all.

Bad Bean in Corolla is no more. BUT, the chef bought the restaurant, same place...new name is MexiKind. Website is http://mexikind.com.

Revival Road is a new little place that I like. "Local Artisan Handmade and Repurposed Furniture and Home Decor.reporposed reclaimed & vintage furniture - art & home accessories".  They are located in the Nags Head Square Shopping Center. Eclectic, shabby chic, cool stuff. I don't think they have a website but  you can visit their Facebook page.

OK, enough for one post. We hope to see you soon. When you check in or anytime (when we are open) please call or email with questions or help with places to eat, go, sea.  We are  happy to tell you about the OBX.
