What's New, What's Up and What's Gone

Let's start with a some new place to eat, one of my favorite topics!  The owners of Blue Moon Grill in Nags Head have opened up a new restaurant in Pirate's Cove; Bluewater Grill. I went there about a week ago for lunch and it was as good as I heard it was from other people. Great views, industrial-chic decor, and a great menu.

Wait staff was prompt and attentive and the food we had was very good. I think this place is going to do quite well. Check out their Facebook page; the website is under construction.

We have a distillery on the OBX now!  Outer Banks Distilling is the first craft distillery on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

What's up? Long winter, hopefully over. Almost every place on the OBX is now open and ready for Easter all the visitors coming for a long weekend or a spring break. Kill Devil Rum by the bottle will be available at local Outer Banks restaurants and ABC stores for purchase and they will also be offering tours of the factory. Location is 501 Budleigh Street in Manteo. I might see you there.

What else? We, Outer Bankers, are not happy about the proposed offshore drilling and exploration off our coast. Think of the Gulf Coast...and the oil spill. There have been several meetings and I am pretty sure there will be many more about this.

The Beacon Motor Lodge is no more. It was sold to a company in Virginia and was bulldozed yesterday. Another cottage court gone from the Outer Banks. Sad but I guess you cannot stop progress...at least not all of it.

Our local photographers continue to amaze and inspire me. No only are they talented, they are also generous and freely share their beautiful photos daily on Facebook. And, they help each other. And praise each other. Nice, very nice. And classy.

If you are interested, check out the Facebook pages for The OBX Beach Bum, Roy Edlund, Rick Anderson, M Luton Photography just to name a few. I will mention others next time.

Speaking of next time, I need to sign off.

Until then,

Your Outer Banks Blogger
