July 4th on the Outer Banks of NC. Fireworks and More

There is so much more going on for kids and families this year on the OBX than in years past.
Camps...plays...concerts...baseball! And of course one of the most fun days...and nights on the Outer Banks is July 4th. New things have been added for this day too. Please continue reading for a list of where to be and what to do.

Nags Head
Fireworks Spectacular on Thursday, July 4 at 9:25 pm at the Nags Head Pier, Milepost 11.5. The display will last about 25 minutes. Rain date is July 5. For the best views we suggest you get there early and park at one of the Beach Accesses...all in Nags Head.

Another great place to get great views of the fireworks is Jockey's Ridge State Park. The park will be open late on July 4th just for that reason.

2013 Killer Dunes 2 Miler and Fun Run
July 4 at Jockey's Ridge State Park , Nags Head, NC 27948
A popular event presented by the Outer Banks Running Club. Proceeds benefit Friends of Jockey's Ridge, a local non-profit organization dedicated to supporting, preserving, and enhancing Jockey's Ridge State Park. Last day to register online was Friday June 14, 2013. On-site registration may be available if the event is not full. Not running? Go and cheer on the others. Heritage Park is where you want to be if you are staying in Corolla. Bring blankets, lawn chairs or a towel to sit on. The park is located at 1100 Club Rd. Rt 12, Corolla, NC 27927 for you GPS lovers.

There will be local BBQ, pizza, popcorn, fun and some great music from The Tidewater Drive Band. The cornhole tournament starts at 6:30 and fireworks begin at dusk. Admission and Parking are free.

Kill Devil Hills

Smoke on the Water! Head to the Blue Crab Tavern in Kill Devil Hills for a 4th of July Pig Pickin' and Backyard Bash. Live music by High Tide. No cover charge. Doors open at noon.

Time to Run! 2nd Annual Freedom 5K, Old Glory Mile and Little Sparkler Stroller. All American family and community event in the spirit of American Independence! Presented by Outer Banks Runcations. This event is hosted by the Town of Kill Devil Hills for an out/back paved course with a section of well established dirt road. 102 Town Hall Drive, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948. Celebrate Freedom at the Ocean View Baptist Church Thursday July 4th, 11am - 3pm. Live music, games, food and more. Water slide, snow cones, hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks. See the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department Fire Engine and smoke training trailer. FREE to the public!

According to ABC news, Duck NC has one of the country's top 10 best small town 4th of July parades. Who are we to argue? This annual community event features music, refreshments, trophies and more. The parade starts at 9 am on Scarborough Lane and ends on Christopher Drive. Once the parade is over, get on over to the town park for more refreshments and music from the talented Ruth Wyand. The Island Farm celebrates Independence Day 1850's style! Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the lawn and then have some watermelon in front of the farmhouse. At 1 and 3 pm...musket firing! Ox wagon rides from 10:30 am to 12:30. At 2:00 pm there will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence. $6 per person. Children 5 and under get in free. Manteo does July 4th up right too. Manteo native Tshombe Selby sings the National Anthem to start things off at 3:00 pm. Hungry? There is an apple pie eating contest at 4:00 pm and a Wackiest Hat Contest and a contest for Best Decorated Bike.

Then it is time to settle in for a patriotic concert by the Blue Aces, a division of the US Air Force Heritage of America Band. This starts at 8:00 pm in the Outdoor Pavilion. Then...fireworks! Stay where you are because it is the best place to watch the Town of Manteo Fireworks begin at 9:30 pm. Free event.
