Outer Banks Island Farm on Roanoke Island

Maybe your kids have never seen a working farm or watched a blacksmith at work...or seen how people dressed over 150 years ago. For something a little different to do while you are on the Outer Banks we suggest you visit the Island Farm in Manteo. You can explore island live as it was many years ago when laundry was washed in a steaming iron pot onver a hardwood fire and even lend a hand if you like. Take a walk along the along the pasture fences and look at the farm animals. Want to help there too? Help a farmer hoe his corn or carry water to the garden...or maybe you want to simply relax under the shade of a tall pecan tree while you watch coastal history come to life.

The interperters are dressed in period attire as they go about the daily activities on a Roanoke Island Farm in the 1850s.

The farm is open from June to November Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission is $5.00.

The Island Farm is located on US Highway 64 north of Manteo on Roanoke Island. It is about 15 minutes from Nags Head 1 hour from Corolla and only 5 minutes from the North Carolina Aquarium and the Elizabethan Gardens.
