What's NewNew in Program for 2010!
DescriptionHilda Mae was going through her scrapbooks and old pictures while spring cleaning and stopped to look at the vacation photos. Her mama and daddy also took the family to Nags Head every summer and Hilda Mae remembers those weeks as some of the best in her life.
She picked up each photo carefully and while looking at it could almost hear ocean waves and the seagulls ... smell the salt air and suntan lotion and feel the breezes. There were photos of her and daddy in the ocean as he tried to teach her to swim ... her brother fishing; he was so proud when he caught that little croaker! There was mama sitting on the porch reading her novel and checking on her kids every few minutes. She looked so young! She had a smile on her face in every single photo except the one where daddy was chasing her with a crab.
There was always fresh, cold lemonade ready and dinner each night was a feast of crabs, shrimp, fish, watermelon, Currituck tomatoes and fresh corn. At night, everyone sat on the front porch of the vacation home and told stories, sang songs or just listened to the sounds of the beach.
Hilda Mae's cousins usually spent the summer with them too and her aunts and uncles and grandparents came down off and on during the time they were at the Outer Banks. Great family time and wonderful memories.
She decided right then and there that it was time to come back to the Outer Banks and start making some of those same memories for her children ... Wyatt and Georgia Ann. Cole, her husband, would pretty much go along with whatever Hilda Mae wanted (it was easier and he still got a kick out of treating her like a princess) and the more she thought about it the more she wanted to have a family reunion.
If Lila Grace and Truman came with their two kids and they invited Coles mama ... that would work out fine.
She got online and looked at several websites ...she was not that great on the computer...until she came to the Village Realty website which was very easy to use and the pictures were big and clear.
The Fearing Cottage looked just right and Hilda Mae was surprised how easy it was to book online--just a few clicks and she was finished. "Maybe this internet stuff is not so hard after all" she thought.
Months passed and soon the families were all together at the house in Nags Head. Hilda Mae and Lila Grace made sure there was plenty of lemonade and sweet tea on hand and had a lot of fun planning the menus.
The kids had so much fun at the beach they begged to come back next year and the year after that ... Hilda Mae smiled and said she thought that might be worked out.
On the last full day at The Fearing Cottage Hilda Mae and Cole were sitting on the porch watching the kids run back and forth on the beach as they played tag with the waves.
The sun was shining, it was warm and a gentle breeze was blowing ...just a perfect day...just the type of day she remembered sharing with her own parents. In fact, if she looked really hard she could almost see her daddy and mama standing on the beach near her children ... smiling and waving back at her.
