Locals eagerly await their opening day each spring. Ask any local to name their top 5, and the Kill Devil Grill will be in there. Their signature dish is the Philly cheese steak eggrolls, which come highly recommended by both Chris and Laura from Nags Head Reservations. Leslie from Association Management says “the Grilled Salmon Salad and the Southern Fried Chicken salad are to die for! Also the spinach dip comes with the lightest homemade chips, not to be missed.” Corolla Sales agent Amber loves “the low-key vibe and the food is ALWAYS great… very consistent.” As Jenny of Web Services sums it up: “The specials are always top notch! Food is fresh, local and delicious!”

Known for steaks cooked to perfection on their wood-fired grill, JK’s has something to offer everyone. Nags Head Sales agent Ruth Ann names a few: “Excellent food. Good place for a quiet relaxing meal. Fish is always fresh, great apps, salads, steaks and ribs. Ever changing always interesting wine list.” JK’s relaxing atmosphere makes for a perfect date night or adults night out according to Maggie of Nags Head Reservations. Linda from Human Resources “loves the mesquite and nice variety on the menu." And Ansley from Association Management says JK’s is “hands down one of the best restaurants on the beach! Everything on the menu is great, but the Chicken and Ribs Combo is to die for!”

A local landmark that was totally rebuilt after a catastrophic fire two years ago, Lone Cedar has a special connection to the Village People. While Jeannie from Web Services loves everything about it, and Jackie of Nags Head Sales suggests you try the “most delicious she crab soup on the planet,” we will let Nags Head Sales agent Caroline Basnight tell you the rest: “We only serve fresh local seafood bought from local fishermen daily. Everything is homemade - no frozen dishes. Our meat is only prime beef. All our meats are organic & have no hormone injections. Our vegetables are grown by local North Carolina farmers. A recent addition to our community, the Blue Moon quickly gained a loyal following. Ruth Ann says “Chef Scott and his wife Michelle are just wonderful. Love their shrimp and grits. Awesome grilled Caesar salad.” Grilled salad? Read on as Jeanne from Pools & Spas explains: “It might sound strange but it is delicious as well as unique. It has all the wonderful flavors of any Caesar salad with the added flavor of the grill. We have had all by itself or with grilled chicken, a wonderful sliced steak, soft shell crabs, or my favorite crab cake (lots of lump crab and little filler). With the additions its a complete meal! It is not always on the menu, but usually it can be made if you ask. And it is worth asking for.” And Jeannie from Web Services assures us that she loves “everything."

You have never tasted anything like Mama Kwans! They describe their cuisine as a fusion including borrowed tastes from the Pacific Rim - Hawaii, Japan, Thailand and others. Leslie and Linda recommend Kwan’s based on the fun atmosphere, great menu and good prices, while Jeannie says to try to fish tacos. Other unique favorites are the Thai money bags and anything that includes the marinated cucumbers.

Tortuga's Lie
Nags Head MP 11 on the Beach Road
No other restaurant seems to inspire loyalty like Tortuga’s! Of course they have been here since 1989 so they must be doing something right. Ruth Ann recommends the Salmon Salad du Jour, while Karen from Nags Head Sales loves”the fish specials and I think they have the best fried oysters on the beach.” But it’s Bill from Corolla Reservations who feels really strongly about his recommendation: “Sushi is the number one reason. I bet 9 out of the last 10 times I have been there, it’s been on a Wednesday night for sushi. I know they have a good menu, and everyone I have gone with has enjoyed the food. I know they make more sauces and entrees from scratch then most, but I have had so few of them because I always go for the sushi.”

“Tasty fish tacos, yummy pork tacos, quesadillas and let us not forget the fine margaritas!!” says Laura from Nags Head Reservations. The Timbuck II location is more of a taco stand, while the one in Kill Devil Hills has a bar and generous dining room. The burritos are huge. Just don’t go expecting Tex-Mex - instead think Baja California.

A perfect dinner spot in Manteo, especially during First Fridays when there is live music outside by the covered patio. Definitely Southwestern flair, but far from typical - see the pulled pork nachos or Southwestern spring rolls. “Great food, relaxed atmosphere, small, good for family or couples” says Maggie from Nags Head Reservations. Open interior and cool stainless steel “wine bar” that also features many beers on tap.

Nags Head Milepost 16.5 on the Beach Road
Locally owned for 73 years, Sam & Omie’s is trul an Outer Banks original. Durinda from Marketing enjoys “the atmosphere and the best Hatteras-style clam chowder anywhere!” Ruth Ann from Nags Head Sales also mentions the “friendly and warm atmosphere of old Nags Head, great food, perfect spot for breakfast, lunch or casual dinner. Favorites are shrimp burger, soft shell sandwich (in season), chicken salad and pimento cheese sandwich.” Try the fried veggies.
