Each year, a number of events happen in the Outer Banks of North Carolina to celebrate the Independence Day holiday. Whether you and your family like to sit on a blanket as you watch fireworks over the Atlantic Ocean or whether you enjoy listening to music while you eat some hot dogs, the Outer Banks has just what you are looking for as you celebrate this special holiday with your family and friends.

Corolla

July 3, 2011 – Sunday 5 pm – 7 pm
Patriotic Salute Concert with the 440th Army Band

Enjoy an evening celebrating our military with this Patriotic Salute at Currituck Heritage Park. The 440th Army Band has served as North Carolina's National Guard Band under several designations since the early 1900s and today is comprised of 40 citizen Soldiers with a wide range of civilian professions. The 440th has earned numerous awards and has been recognized three times by the United States Army with the Eisenhower Trophy as ''Outstanding North Carolina National Guard Unit”. Admission and Parking are free. Pets on leash are welcome.

July 4 – Monday from 6 pm to 10 pm
19th Annual Independence Day Festival of Fireworks

Fireworks begin at dusk but arrive early to enjoy food, fun activities, fabulous music and find a place for your blankets and chairs to settle in for the best fireworks on the Outer Banks! Sponsored by the Currituck County Department of Travel and Tourism. Admission and parking are free.

Duck

Annual Fourth of July Parade - July 4 at 9:00 a.m.
Duck’s seventh annual Fourth of July Parade will be held on Monday, July 4, 2011 at 9:00 a.m., with an after-event following at the Duck Town Park featuring community fun, music, watermelon, and the awarding of parade trophies. The one-mile parade route is the same annually and begins at the crest of the hill on Scarborough Lane and continues down Ocean Way and then Christopher Drive. July 4th Celebration with the Town of Manteo

Nags Head

Nags Head Fireworks

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 9:25 p.m. on the ocean pier located at Mile Post 11.5 on NC Route 12, South Virginia Dare Trail in Nags Head. A rain date has been set for Friday, July 8, 2011. The fireworks display will last approximately 25 minutes. Zambelli Fireworks will present the program, promising unforgettable fireworks.

Jockey’s Ridge State Park is another ideal spot for viewing the fireworks. The park will be open late July 4th to accommodate visitors. Please call the park at 252-441-7132 for more information.

Parking at and near the fireworks display site will be directed by the Nags Head Police Department. All persons attending the show are encouraged to park east of U.S. Highway 158/S. Croatan Highway. Those choosing to park west of U.S. Highway 158/S. Croatan Highway should use extreme caution while attempting to cross this heavily traveled roadway.

All persons attending this event are reminded not to use or block private driveways. Vehicles blocking driveways or presenting a traffic hazard before, during, or immediately following this event will be towed. The Town of Nags Head requests that persons use the public beach accesses as pathways to the oceanfront. Please stay off the environmentally sensitive dune and do not use the private property of others, such as private gazebos or decks, to view the fireworks without the property owner’s permission.

No vehicles, with the exception of authorized Town and emergency vehicles, will be allowed on the ocean front beaches.

The following public beach accesses are recommended for access to the beach for fireworks viewing:

  • South of Nags Head Fishing Pier
  • North of Nags Head Fishing Pier
  • Curlew Street
  • Bladen Street
  • Hollowell Street
  • Bittern Street
  • Conch Street
  • Bonnett Street
  • Blackman Street
  • Barnes Street

At the conclusion of the fireworks, spectator, pedestrian, and vehicular traffic exiting the area will be directed and controlled by Nags Head Police Officers.

The public is reminded that the personal use of fireworks in Nags Head is illegal.
