Dare Days
Dare Day Festival, held each year on the Manteo Waterfront in June, is an annual celebration of the people and history of Dare County, located in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This family event hosts a variety of food vendors, live entertainment and a variety of activities for those of all ages to enjoy.
This event started in 1976 as Dare Days, as it was a two-day event and was held that year as part of the bicentennial celebration. Locals consider the event an unofficial kickoff to the upcoming season. This year ws the only year the event was a 2-day event, so now the event is called Dare Day.
Adults enjoy attending the event, which normally offers warm weather and beautiful views along the Manteo Waterfront as they browse the more than 100 vendors offering a variety of furniture, toys, jewelry, paintings and other handmade items. Attendees enjoy the festival-style food of hamburgers, hot dogs, Polish sausages, a variety of local seafood, fresh-squeezed lemonade, slushes and more.
Each year, more than 5,000 people attend the Dare Day Festival, which opens each year with a "Blessing of the Season" prayer by a local Outer Banks pastor. The Town of Manteo and Dare County co-sponsor this event.
