Flying Pirate Half Marathon
Friday, April 16, 2010 TO Sunday, April 18, 2010 OBX Marathon Race Course Outer Banks Sporting Events is pleased to announce the Inaugural Flying Pirate Half Marathon! Many of you have heard about the beauty of the first half of the Outer Banks Marathon course, and now you can run it!
Events include the EXPO on April 16-17, the Pasta Party on April 17 and the Race on April 18.
The EXPO will be held on Friday, April 16 from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Oceanfront Pasta Party will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 17 at The Ramada Plaza at 1701 Virginia Dare Trail in Kill Devil Hills. Tickets for the Pasta Party are $15 for Adults and $10 for Kids 12 years and under.
The race will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 18. Registration will be $65 per person if registered by 2/14/2010; $75 if registered between 2/15/10 and 4/11/10. Registration at the Race Expo April 16-17 will be $80 per person.
The Post Race Party will run on Sunday, April 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Shuttle buses will be available for race participants. A variety of prizes will be awarded, and all net proceeds go to charity.

Friday, May 28, 2010 TO Friday, May 28, 2010 Waterside Theatre at The Lost Colony Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paul Green's The Lost Colony recounts the exciting events leading to the disappearance of the English colonists who settled here over 400 years ago. Lavish costumes, daring action, special effects, delightful comedy, music and dance.
Children 11 and under are free on Monday and Friday and half price on Saturday with a paying adult. General admission price for children is $12, price for adults ranges from $18 to $20, with lower level seats available for $24 per seat. Senior admission is $19, and Groups of 20 or more are $22 per person.
Backstage tours are also available of The Lost Colony. Attend this exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how theatrical magic is created at Waterside Theatre. During this 45-minute walking tour, you will see how The Lost Colony's stage is transformed into several scenes right before your eyes and learn other "tricks of the trade" while visiting the Theatre, Costume Shop, and Props Areas. Tours are held nightly at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for the Backstage Tour are $7.00 per person and reservations are required.

Outer Banks Marathon and Half Marathon
Friday, November 12, 2010 TO Sunday, November 14, 2010 Various Locations The course of the OBX Marathon and Half Marathon includes varied scenic coastal terrain, as well as incredible community and spectator support. This race is a Boston-Marathon qualifier and is walker-friendly.
Registration for the 2010 event is now available.
The event will begin with the EXPO at the Dare County Youth Center in Kill Devil Hills at 602 Mustian Street. The EXPO will be on Friday, November 12 from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, November 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The EXPO will feature a variety of official race apparel, running and athletic gear, music, food and training clinics.
The Oceanfront Pasta Party will be held at The Ramada Plaza at 1701 Virginia Dare Trail in Kill Devil Hills on Saturday, November 13 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The cost for the party is $15 per person.
The Gateway Bank Half Marathon, held at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 14, is $60 to $100 per person to enter. This walker-friendly course will be mainly flat and fast with coastal and scenic views and incredible community and spectator support. The course time limit will be 3:00 p.m.
The Outer Banks Marathon, starting at 7:20 a.m. on Sunday, November 14 with a 3:00 p.m. course limit, is $75 to $110 per person to enter. The terrain will be varied, including coastal and scenic views, incredible community and spectator support and is a walker-friendly course. This race is a Boston Marathon qualifier. Runners will need to maintain a pace of 17:10 per mile to "beat the bridge" at mile 22 - the bridge will be closed to runners at 1:50 p.m. Up to 2500 runners will be allowed to enter the Outer Banks Marathon.
Outer Banks 8K
Saturday, November 13, 2010 Near the First Flight Schools Campus An out-and-back course which will start in Kill Devil Hills, continue through Nags Head Woods Maritime Forest and finish at the First Flight High School track. The course is partly on a dirt road, the race is walker-friendly. Up to 1,000 runners will be accepted into the Outer Banks 8K, which is hosted by the Outer Banks Running Club.

During 2010, the Gallery at Roanoke Island Festival Park will feature a group of exhibitions that give voice to the Earth. Earth Speaks will feature earth friendly mini quilts, beach glass art, nature and weather photography, watercolor collages of whimsical landscapes and wildlife, realistic wildlife paintings and prints, and bird and floral photography, natural material baskets, clay vases and more.

4th Annual Park Illumination Celebration & Holiday Tour

The Whalehead Club will open for holiday tours to show off the house museum festively decorated as in the 1920's. Admission & Parking are free.
107th Annual Celebration of the Wright Brothers First Flight
Friday, December 17, 2010 TO Friday, December 17, 2010 Wright Brothers National Memorial Gather at the exact site at the exact time as the historic flight to remember, reflect and celebrate this milestone. The daylong anniversary tribute will be held at the site of Wright's first flight. Visitors to the site experience a replica of the Wright Brothers' 1903 encampment and majestic, 60-foot tall granite monument perched atop a 90-foot hill that serves a striking and lasting reminder of the important historical achievement that happened on this site a century ago.
