Time to share some culture and customs from other countries....

Although we have quite a few people coming here to stay over Christmas and New Years it is going to be very, very quiet on the OBX after that. January and February, while prime months for booking reservations, are the two months of the year when things really slow down here.

Have you ever heard of the Manx Club? I hadn't either until one of my former co-workers told me it was a club for dune buggy enthusiasts/owners. Who knew? So of course there is a Manx on the Banx chapter here on the Outer Banks.

This is the time of year for the holiday parties that most companies hold. Some are at the office while others have their party off site at a restaurant or event venue. We thought it might be a good time for a few reminders...in the spirit of the season and because we don't want anyone to get fired!

Last night a friend/business associate was in town and we went to Owen's Restaurant for dinner. Owen's has been in business on the Outer Banks for over 65 years and serves some of the finest food you will find anywhere. The memoroabilia is very interesting and you will find it throughout the restaurant.

This time of year is when some local restaurants close up for the season...usually that happens right after Thanksgiving week. However many of our dining places stay open later and some all year long. Since we know many people will be coming down this month (yes, it is true...we have 127 check ins so far from right before Christmas to NY eve...and that does not include owners) we wanted to give you a list of places that will be serving.

Outer Banks, NC - Shirley Brooks-Jones of Dublin, Ohio was the recipient of the 2009 Hometown Hero Award based on a winning essay submitted by her nephew, Tim Byrd.
The family was gathered for the holidays and once again, the dinner table conversation was centered around the "Lewisporte Area 15 Scholarship Fund" (formerly 'Flight 15 Scholarship Fund') which was spearheaded by his Aunt Shirley in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11th, 2001. Tim was inspired listening to his Aunt recount her personal story about that most scary of times. When he saw the request for "Hometown Heroes" on the Village Realty website (www.villagerealtyobx.com) Tim submitted his marvelous story for consideration. The entire family just spent a week at the Croatan Surf Club in Kill Devil Hills, in two beautiful oceanfront condominiums, honoring Shirley for her generous spirit. Tuesday, December 06, 2011
Village Realty's 2nd Annual Chili Cook Off was held at the Nags Head office on November 30th. Nine employees made their own version to the cook off and we had everything from venison chili to white chili and the good old favorites with meat (beef) and beans. Hot, spicy, smokey flavored, mild and flavorful...there were so many to choose from. I could not make it though all eight but the four or five I did sample were excellent.
